Baby Shower - May 8, 2010

Our 2nd Annual Community Wide Baby Shower was a wonderful success! So many people stopped by and dropped off new and gently loved baby items, or played our hilarious "dirty diaper" game! All of these items were delivered to the Women's Resource Center, where they will be placed in the Baby Boutique. Needy moms and dads will earn "shopping dollars" by completing parenting classes.

Youth Embracing Service Program

It is a proven fact that young people who routinely engage in the types of activities that encourage service to others, are less likely to be involved in risky behaviors.  Today’s youth has the energy, imagination and tools to reach out and help their peers, families and their own neighborhoods – and it doesn’t necessarily require money to do so.  It requires a genuine desire to put others’ needs ahead of their own.  Quota International,
MS Gulf Coast wants to foster and encourage
that sense of caring.

If you know a school age child (1st thru 12th Grade) in Harrison, Jackson or Hancock County, who has performed an unselfish act of service between Sept 1, 2007 and today, please nominate them for this recognition. All nominations will be reviewed by our YES Board of Educators, Counselors and Service Volunteers.

Each month, an outstanding youth will be recognized at their school, club or church, with a $100 Savings Bond and a "YES" medal of achievement.

At the end of the school year, all children who receive this award, will be invited to a special function in their honor, and one of those recipients will be named YES honoree of the year, and receive a $1,000.00 Savings Bond.

Congratulations to our
Y.E.S. Youth of the Year

Mary and Virginia Margiotta
2010-2011

Mary and Virginia Margiotta are Deaf sisters.  They reside in Gulfport and are two of de L'Epee Deaf Center's most loyal and dependable volunteers.  These ladies take on every task they "throw at them".  Here is just a short list of some of the volunteer hours they give: Act as Counselor at Deaf Youth Camps.  Decorate for all events.  Decorate the Outside of the Deaf Center at Christmas.  Participate in the weekly events at the Center such as Bible Study and Movie Night.  They don’t just show up for parties, they work them, many times taking money at the door and serving food and drink.  They help put together the newsletter each issue.  They recently represented our Deaf community on a Pilgrimage to Rome with other Deaf from around the world.  They help teach sign language to children and hearing adults.  They visit sick deaf in nursing homes and hospitals.  They make items such as Easter bunnies and deliver them to the children in the hospital during the holidays.  They are always the first ones there and the last ones to leave.
