Quota Announces Youth of the Year & Celebrates over $25,000.00 In Charitable Donations
The MS Gulf Coast Chapter of Quota International held its 2nd Annual Service & Appreciation Banquet on June 13, 2010 at St. Mark’s Church in Gulfport, MS. The local chapter of the world-wide service organization reviewed their past year of service to the speech and hearing impaired as well as disadvantaged women and children.
Nine students were recognized as recipients of the Youth Embracing Service Award, and Daniel Roberts of Moss Point High School was announced as the Youth of the Year. His philanthropic work earned him a $1,000.00 Savings Bond from the club. Other recipients present included: Brianna Cuevas, Maura Worch, Alexis Broussard, Haley Martin and Ashley-Calcote.
The Club also recognized the outstanding deaf leaders of the community with their Community Champion award. Virginia and Mary Margiotta, sisters, were selected and honored with a certificate and a handmade collage of their service work, which will hang at the de l’Epee Deaf Center.
Other awards included: $1,000.00 scholarship to Amber Jordan; Quota Rookie of the Year – Trisha Hubbard, Quota Volunteer of the Year - Vicki Miller, and Quotarian of the Year- Paula April. Certificates of Appreciation were presented to: Jerome Carver, Vester Wentzell, Romy Simpson, Ron Meyers, Coast Radio Group, Tom Miller, Knight-Abbey Printers, Walker Audio-Visual, RPM Domino’s Pizza, Vicki Parkhill, and Walgreen’s. Patron of the Year was IP Casino Resort Spa.
The club also presented over $6,500 in cash donations to: Hope Haven Children’s Services, de l’Epee Deaf Center, The Harrison County Emergency Youth Shelter, Jackson County CASA, The Ohr O’Keefe Museum of Art Mud Dauber’s Camp, Feed My Sheep, The Lord is My Help, Loaves & Fishes and the Gulf Coast Rescue Mission.
The highlight of the event was the club’s tribute to their Charter President, Mary Frances Stafford. In recognition of her many years of dedication to Quota service, she was made an Honorary Member for Life, and the Quotarian of the Year Award will now bear her name as the Frances Stafford Quotarian of the Year Award. |
