This project was inspired after Katrina, when Quotarians from all over the world sent 600 shoeboxes to us for the children of the Gulf Coast. We worked with the Jackson County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) and the Harrison County Youth Shelter. They gave us a list of needy children, and their ages, and members, family and friends "adopted" these children by filling a shoebox with goodies, then gift wrapping them. The gifts were delivered to the Jackson County Youth Court (see photo below) and the HC Youth Shelter by various members.
In addition, Quotarian Amy Corchis, organized another group of 32 ladies who wanted to join in a Christmas project. When Amy told them about the Shoeboxes of Love program, they donated another 32 boxes, and Amy delivered those! |
